On April 25, 2007, Mexico City's legislative branch passed a law legalizing abortion during the first 12 weeks, reducing penalties for abortions performed after that time, and committing the local public health system to perform such abortions free of charge, using tax-payers' money. This is only the beginning of a campaign being waged by very powerful international interests who want to see abortion legalized in all of Latin America. What happens in Mexico in this critical hour will strongly impact what happens in the rest of the world.
On May 25, Mexico's National Human Rights Commission filed a lawsuit contesting this abortion law before Mexico's Supreme Court of Justice, which confirms that in God's mercy, this can be stopped. But we have to act.
Therefore, Dryander Ministries is endeavoring to implement a Plan of Action, and to raise a minimum of US$25,000.00 Dollars toward this purpose.
Our flagship project is the writing, printing, and distribution of a book entitled En defensa de la vida humana prenatal en México (In Defense of Human Prenatal Life in Mexico). This book is addressed primarily to Mexican Supreme Court justices (but is also aimed at legislators, public opinion leaders and other key persons), and presents solid jurisprudential reasons why any law legalizing abortion is unconstitutional according to the Mexican legal system. The writing of this book is nearing completion, but funds are urgently needed for printing and distribution. The author of the book is Mexican lawyer and evangelical theologian Alejandro Moreno. A draft of the first chapter of the book is already available online in Spanish.
We have also created a website featuring evangelical resources in Spanish, to which we are adding new material on an ongoing basis. We also plan, as funds become available, to mount a publicity campaign.
